Ramadan 2024: UAE Urges Muslims to Observe the Crescent Moon on Sunday

The UAE moon-sighting committee on Friday urged all Muslims in the country to see the crescent of Ramadan on Sunday evening, March 10, 2024.

The committee asked anyone who saw the crescent to contact 026921166.

The Islamic calendar typically lasts 29 or 30 days. The crescent Moon determines the beginning and end of the month; hence, Ramadan is not fixed on precise dates each year.

If seen on the 29th Sha’ban, which falls on March 10 (today), the crescent will signal the start of the holy month of Ramadan on Monday, March 11. If the crescent is absent, Ramadan begins on Tuesday, March 12.

Shariah courts nationwide will monitor and report any sightings to the committee. At the same time, the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department’s Lunar Calendar Committee will continue to collect evidence and present its conclusions to the moon-sighting committee.

Saudi Arabia’s moon sighting committee has also predicted that citizens will see Ramadan’s crescent on Sunday, March 10.
