On Sunday, December 3, tickets for the green zone of COP28 at Expo City, Dubai, were completely sold out. The COP28 team announced on social media that all free tickets for the first day open to the public had been snapped up. After two days of exclusive access for government officials, delegates, and negotiators, the climate gathering welcomed UAE residents eager to explore various topics.

Families with young children, groups of friends, and colleagues all flocked to the site. Queues formed outside popular attractions like the House of Sustainability and Al Wasl Dome. The House of Sustainability offers visitors an opportunity to delve into the culture and history of the UAE, while the Al Wasl Dome showcases an exhibition of sustainable fashion.

For 12-year-old David, the event was a chance to learn more about renewable energy. At the Energy Hub’s Octopus stall, he sought to understand how the distinctive “pink fans” he noticed outside Expo City could generate energy, likening them to windmills.

COP28, running in Dubai until December 12, aims to unite countries in the fight against climate change. Attendees, like friends Riti and Manasi, visited the event to draw inspiration for their careers. Riti, running a sustainable packaging startup, highlighted the impact of packaging on the environment. Meanwhile, Manasi, working in finance, expressed a deep interest in sustainability and sought inspiration to make a career switch.
