UAE travel agents have indicated that airfares could decrease in the upcoming weeks.
They say although some sectors might experience higher prices due to the approaching Hijri Holiday, this is because the initial summer rush has diminished.
According to the online travel agency Skyscanner, the first two weeks of the school holidays are the most popular time to travel, but it’s the most expensive. “Skyscanner’s data shows that, on average, travelers can save 10 percent by traveling in the week of August 19 versus the start of July, which means an average saving of Dh760 for a family of four”.
Speaking to Khaleej Times, T.P. Sudheesh, General Manager of Deira Travel and Tourist Agency, said, ” Historically, prices start going down from the second week of July, and the peak this year is from June 20 to July 15. So, after the seasonal rush subsides, ticket prices will again rise from August 20 to September 10. That is because around August 29 is Onam, and schools will reopen around that time. Hence, the inbound rush from the subcontinent to the UAE, and European expats will return to the country.”
Moreover, as the much-awaited Eid Al Adha holidays approached, residents who made last-minute travel plans saw excessive airfare increases.
Research conducted by online travel agency Skyscanner revealed that 91 percent of UAE travelers decided to get away this summer. However, nearly 48% are yet to book their holidays.
According to the company, only 4% of UAE travelers actively seek deals for trips during what the company called the” cheapest week of summer.”
Moreover, Raja Mir Wasim, Manager of International Travel Services, said, Prices are directly linked to demand and supply. Last week the demand was high due to the Eid holidays, with many people looking to travel. Thus, prices increased initially, but the fluctuation will likely stabilize from the best week onwards, and more fare options will hopefully be available”.

Enterprises are of a slightly different opinion as she says early signs of not indicating this is happening anytime soon.
Furthermore, Philip said, ” I think it will take some time before the airfares go down. I checked a few days ago for a destination in India, but it has not gone down. Usually, we do see a price decrease after the initial seasonal rush, but so far, it hasn’t happened yet. So, we can only wait and watch”.
