A small plane crashed in a rural, wooded area on Monday, killing five members of a Georgian family who were visiting Cooperstown, New York, for a baseball tournament, according to authorities.
In a statement from the Federal Aviation Administration, the single-engine Piper PA-46 crashed on Sunday at 2:00 PM after taking off from a regional airport in Oneonta. The five people who were on board were found dead and the wreckage of the plane was discovered Sunday night in Masonville, according to a news release from the New York State Police. The crash site is remote, approximately 200 kilometres (125 miles) northwest of New York City. Search efforts included the use of helicopters, all-terrain vehicles, and drones.
