Missile Strike Hits Russian Ship in Crimea, Ukraine Targets Naval Bases

A Ukrainian missile recently hit a shipyard in Crimea, which Russia took control of from Ukraine in 2014. The Russian military said that out of 15 missiles aimed at the Zaliv shipyard in the city of Kerch, their air defenses stopped 13, but a couple still managed to hit and damage a Russian ship. They haven’t shared much about the ship or how badly it was hurt.

The Ukrainian air force leader, Mykola Oleshchuk, mentioned that one of Russia’s newer ships, which can carry cruise missiles, was at the shipyard when Ukraine’s planes attacked. He didn’t say for sure if that ship was the one that got hit.

Crimea has been a main spot for attacks since Russia started fighting Ukraine about 20 months ago. It’s a big place that helps Russia with their invasion.

Ukraine has been hitting naval spots in Crimea more often. In September, their missiles hurt two Russian ships and injured people at a shipyard in Sevastopol, another big city in Crimea. Another missile hit the Russian navy’s office there too.

After the latest attack, a top Ukrainian official, Andriy Yermak, said on Telegram that Russia’s navy won’t be staying in Crimea.

In other news, the Ukrainian military said that a Russian missile killed soldiers and hurt civilians near Zaporizhzhia on Friday night. It seems the missile was an Iskander ballistic missile, but we don’t know much more than that.

A video on the internet shows the missile hitting a group of soldiers who were getting together to remember others who had died. We’re still waiting to hear how many people were hurt or killed. Ukraine’s Defense Minister, Rustem Umerov, has started an investigation into what happened.

Also, on October 5, a missile hit a Ukrainian village during a service for a local soldier who had died, and 59 people there lost their lives.
