In a significant incident on Saturday, a large fire swept through multiple wooden houseboats anchored in Kashmir’s well-known Dal Lake. Officials have confirmed the recovery of three charred bodies from the aftermath.
The intense blaze, which lasted for nearly two hours, consumed five houseboats and several water-embedded huts. Firefighters dispatched from Srinagar, the primary city in Kashmir, successfully extinguished the fire, according to Mir Aqib, a fire officer.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Aqib noted that the blaze initiated in the houseboats, commonly utilized by tourists from outside Kashmir, where some cooking gas cylinders exploded.
Authorities are working to determine the identities of the recovered bodies, whether they belong to tourists or local workers. Nearby houseboats were relocated from the area, as reported by the police.
Boat rides on Dal Lake are immensely popular among tourists, who often choose to stay on these houseboats during their visit to Srinagar.
