At a conference on Monday in Spain, Arab states and the European Union decided that a two-state solution was the best way to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian problem. EU foreign affairs leader Josep Borrell stated that Gaza should be governed by the Palestinian Authority.
According to Borrell, nearly all participants at the Mediterranean summit in Barcelona, including all EU countries, had agreed that a two-state solution was necessary.
The only “viable solution” to the future leadership of Gaza, which is now administered by Hamas, is for the Palestinian Authority to organize elections and enhance its operations in order to prevent a “power vacuum,” he said.
Israel launched a ground offensive in the north and shelled the enclave in retaliation for that onslaught. According to Gaza health authorities, there have been almost 14,800 Palestinian deaths and hundreds of thousands of displacements.
Hamas declared its desire to prolong the ceasefire. According to an Israeli official who spoke to Reuters, in order for Tuesday to be added to the truce day, Hamas would need to present a fresh list of ten hostages that it may release.
Ayman Safadi, the foreign minister of Jordan, stated that the Palestinian people ought to determine their own government and that any discussion over Gaza’s post-conflict governance should center on the West Bank and Gaza as a single unit.
