Iran launched an unprecedented strike on its fierce rival, Israel, on Wednesday, raising tensions in the area and demonstrating its readiness for any retaliation. Iran also displayed drones, missiles, and soldiers.
The Islamic Republic launched its first direct strike against Israel over the weekend in retaliation for an airstrike on its Damascus consulate on April 1 that has been generally attributed to Israel. President Ebrahim Raisi declared at a military facility on the outskirts of Tehran that the operation known as Honest Promise “took down the glory of the Zionist dictatorship (Israel). This operation demonstrated the readiness of our armed forces,” he added, addressing the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the regular army.
They included various iterations of the Dezful medium-range ballistic missile, the S-300 air defense missile system, and the Ababil, Arash, and Mohajer drones. Raisi issued fresh cautions on Wednesday, stating that “a fierce and severe response” would follow “the slightest act of aggression” by Israel.
Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, the military spokesman, stated that Iran would not escape “scot-free” in Israel’s response to the attack over the weekend.
With assistance from the US and other partners, the Israeli army claimed that the majority of the Iranian rockets were shot down and that the attack only slightly damaged property.
