According to a government document, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has requested all ministries to establish annual targets for their departments for the next five years, indicating his confidence in winning the upcoming general election.
Reuters reviewed the document, which contained Modi’s instructions to government staff and was issued earlier this month, shortly before the Election Commission published voting dates.
Opinion surveys forecast an easy victory for him and his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with the opposition, led by the Congress party, struggling to form a cohesive front to counter Modi’s enormous popularity. The new government will serve a five-year term.
According to the March 11 paper, Modi directed all ministries to produce five-year action plans to transform India from a middle-income country to a fully developed one by 2047. According to the statement, this will result in a 100-day plan for the future government.
