India: Citizenship Amendment Act Norms are Now Implemented.

On Monday, the Union Home Ministry announced the implementation of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) guidelines, just days before the Lok Sabha elections were scheduled.

Home Minister Amit Shah has stated on several occasions that CAA guidelines will be issued before the April-May Lok Sabha elections.

The CAA regulations, announced by the Narendra Modi government and ratified by Parliament in 2019, seek to provide Indian citizenship to persecuted non-Muslim migrants from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan who came in India before December 31, 2014.

According to an official, the CAA law can be implemented by issuing an MHA notification, allowing qualified individuals to seek Indian citizenship. The CAA, which has been postponed for almost four years, requires the development of accompanying rules.

The regulations have been created, and an internet gateway has been established for the entire procedure, which will be carried out digitally. Applicants must state the year of their admission into India without any travel documentation. Applicants will not be required to provide any additional documentation,” stated the official.

On December 27, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that the CAA cannot be suspended because it is the law of the land. He also accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of deceiving the public.
