India: An Airline Employee is Detained after Allegedly Slapping a Police Officer; the Airline Claims this is'Sexual Harassment'

After a fight broke out at the Jaipur airport between a female employee of SpiceJet and a member of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), the airline responded, claiming that the incident was a case of sexual harassment. The employee was later placed under arrest.

The employee was asked to undergo mandatory screening at the nearby airline crew entrance on Thursday, but no female CISF personnel were available at the time of the incident. A senior CISF official stated that the female employee’s agitation and her slap on the CISF personnel who were on duty escalated the situation.

“An employee of SpiceJet was requested to go through mandatory screening at the airport’s nearby airline crew entrance in Jaipur; however, no female CISF personnel were available then. When the female employee became angry, she smacked the CISF officers who were working. She has been taken into custody after a case was filed against her, according to a senior CISF official.

SpiceJet Airlines responded to the statement with an official statement that read, “An unfortunate incident involving a SpiceJet female security staff member and a male CISF personnel occurred at Jaipur Airport today.” The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), India’s civil aviation security regulator, issued our female security staff member with a valid airport entry pass while she was escorting a catering vehicle at the steel gate. However, the CISF personnel used inappropriate and unacceptable language, including asking her to meet him at his home after work.
