In Thailand, a fireworks factory explosion claims 20 lives.

About 20 people were killed in an explosion at a fireworks business in central Thailand on Wednesday, according to province officials; however, the exact number of casualties is unknown due to the scene’s destruction.

The Suphan Buri provincial government’s information office first stated that 23 people had died in the mid-afternoon explosion, but on Wednesday night it changed the number to 19 dead and 3 missing. At least 20 people had been killed, according to an earlier preliminary estimate from the National Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation.

Social media images of the incident revealed a dense cloud of black smoke. The manufacturing site appeared almost completely destroyed in pictures that local rescue personnel uploaded online.

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin’s office released a video of him being informed over the phone by the regional police commander that there were 20 to 30 workers at the factory at the time of the explosion and that none of them could be located. Thavisin is currently attending the World Economic Forum in Switzerland.

There are no survivors, according to rescue personnel on the spot. Provincial officials made no mention of any injured people, despite the disaster department’s claim that any had been located.
