The UAE installed desalination plants in the Egyptian city of Rafah to provide Gaza residents with desalinated drinking water. On Sunday, Sheikh Shakhbout Bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, officially opened the plants by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s orders.
Up to six water desalination plants with a combined daily capacity of 1.2 million gallons were built in the UAE, helping about 600,000 people.
In a record-breaking three weeks, the plants were finished. Sheikh Shakhbout was accompanied by several members of the Federal National Council and a high-ranking group of senior officials from various governmental institutions and humanitarian establishments.
Sheikh Shakhbout stated that the UAE, led by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is committed to carrying out its honourable and humanitarian efforts to assist the Palestinian brethren, especially the women and children, and help them in overcoming these challenging circumstances.
Based on this, he continued, these plants had been installed as a part of the humanitarian operation Galant Knight 3, which Sheikh Mohamed had ordered to supply clean and sustainable water to the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip during difficult circumstances and provide relief aid.
