Following Israel’s declaration that it will consent to another ceasefire in exchange for more captives, the leader of Hamas was scheduled to visit Egypt on Wednesday to hold discussions on a new truce in Gaza.
With the United Nations scheduled to vote on a ceasefire call on Wednesday, there is growing international pressure for a fresh ceasefire that may increase relief to the besieged Palestinian territories. According to a source close to the group, Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of Hamas, who is headquartered in Qatar, was scheduled to head a “high-level” team to Egypt for discussions with the spy chief and other officials on “stopping the aggression and the war to prepare an agreement for the release of prisoners.”
Israel’s officials indicated on Tuesday that they might be open to returning to the negotiating table with Hamas in response to mounting requests for the release of 129 captives they claim are being held in Gaza.”Ready for another humanitarian pause and additional humanitarian aid to enable the release of hostages,” declared Israeli President Isaac Herzog.
Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel, announced that he had lately deployed his chief spy on two missions to Europe.
