For the first time, Abu Dhabi is providing for COP28 delegates with a round-the-clock bus service to Dubai.
There are nine buses in the all-electric fleet, and they transport 44 people daily from Abu Dhabi International Airport’s Terminal A to Expo City Dubai, the site of COP28.
The Green Bus program of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, Abu Dhabi, has initiated the effort through the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC).
Director of the planning department at ITC Ateeq Al Mazrouei remarked, “What sets this service apart is that (it is) the first to provide intercity bus transportation between emirates, operating 24 hours a day.”
The 520 km these electric bus operations travel in a day contribute to a 3.7 tons daily reduction in carbon emissions.
What comes next, COP28?
After COP28 concludes on December 12, the buses will be included into Abu Dhabi’s fleet of public transportation vehicles.
“It will be implemented gradually as Abu Dhabi’s green bus service continues to grow.
After being fully integrated, the fleet is anticipated to travel 3,150 km per day and help save over 900 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually. It just takes two hours to fully charge an electric bus.
