5th March 2024: Users worldwide are experiencing disruptions on Meta-owned platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, as technical issues render these social media services inaccessible for many. The outage, which began on Tuesday, has affected various functionalities across the platforms.
Widespread Login and Feed Refresh Issues
Reports from users highlight a range of problems, from being unexpectedly logged out of Facebook accounts to difficulties in refreshing Instagram feeds. Stories and comments on Instagram are also failing to load for some users. Threads, another app developed by Meta, is facing a complete shutdown, with users being greeted by an error message upon attempting to launch the app.
Surge in Reports and Meta’s Response
DownDetector, a website that tracks internet service outages, has seen a rapid surge in reports for all three platforms following the onset of the technical issues. Despite the increasing number of user complaints, there was initially no official acknowledgment from Meta.
However, Meta spokesperson Andy Stone has since addressed the issue on Twitter, stating, “We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now.” The tweet acknowledges the widespread problems users are encountering and indicates that the company is actively working to resolve the service disruptions.
The outage has prompted frustration and concern among the user base, as many rely on these platforms for communication and content sharing. As the situation develops, users are eagerly awaiting further updates from Meta regarding the resolution of these technical issues.
