Dubai Urges Motorists to Avoid Driving While Fatigued During Ramadan

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has urged motorists to avoid driving while weary or exhausted, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan, when some motorists’ alertness is reduced owing to changes in eating and sleeping patterns.

RTA warns drivers about the dangers of driving when tired or sleepy, especially during Ramadan. This call is in reaction to certain drivers’ inclination to lose attention due to the bodily changes caused by fasting during this sacred month. To address this, the RTA is launching an awareness campaign to offer vital driving recommendations throughout Ramadan as part of its yearly traffic awareness activities based on Dubai’s traffic safety plan.

Throughout 2023, RTA launched an ambitious campaign to improve traffic safety, holding over 270 awareness activities for all community members. These incidents were part of the traffic safety plan, founded on the belief that “every human life is unique and irreplaceable.” The initiatives have helped Dubai’s Traffic Safety Strategy meet its aims and KPIs, notably reducing traffic-related fatalities by about 93% between 2007 and 2023. This feat has elevated Dubai to the world’s leading city in traffic safety.
