Dubai: The Significance of Lifesaving Skills is Highlighted by the Off-Duty Nurse Who Saved a Man's Life on a Public Bus

A nurse who intervened during a bus accident last year to save the life of a passenger suffering from a heart attack has urged UAE citizens to learn basic lifesaving techniques. An elderly co-passenger who was having a heart attack was saved from death by Priscilla Bency, who was headed home. Priscilla Bency saved the man’s life by performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) even though she believed he was dead.

“The man would have passed away before first responders could reach him if I hadn’t been there and hadn’t started CPR on him,” she stated. “Every second counts in an emergency, and hundreds of lives could be saved if more people knew basic lifesaving techniques.”

Priscilla, an employee of Aster Clinic Muteena, saved the life of the vegetable vendor in August of last year. The vendor had become uneasy at work and was heading home. “The man chose to board the bus at the last minute, instead of taking a metro home,” she said. “I felt as though I was meant to save his life.”

Priscilla initially believed there was no point in attempting to save the man when she was informed of the incident. She told Khaleej Times, “I assumed he was dead because I was not getting a pulse and he was visibly breathing.” However, I noticed that he was perspiring heavily, so I started CPR. I could see him starting to react after a few minutes. I was inspired to keep doing it by this.
