Dubai: The Cost of The "Miracle Baby" Whose Parents Were Spared a Near-Fatal C-Section is Rising

After his mother had a near-fatal Caesarean section last week, the baby boy, who was born extremely preterm, is fighting desperately to live. Still, his parents’ hospital bills are mounting.

The mother, Maryam Mohd Kalim Siddiqui, 31, suffered cardiac arrest; a team of doctors at International Modern Hospital (IMH) successfully performed a near-death Caesarean section on her. The story was published in the Khaleej Times recently.

After her heart stopped beating for over half an hour, the doctors decided to carry out an urgent surgery to save her life as well as the life of her unborn child, who was just 27 weeks old at the time.

Despite a very low success rate in this case, Maryam and the baby they named ‘Musa’ were saved by the doctors. On May 26, the tiny boy—who weighed only 1.04 kg—was born.

The father, Nadeem Abdul Wali, told Khaleej Times on Wednesday that Maryam was sent to Burjeel Specialty Hospital in Sharjah on May 30. Maryam was released from the hospital on June 1 and is currently recuperating at home.

“I have paid about Dh45,000 toward Musa’s and his mother’s medical expenses thus far.” Only Dh9,000 was covered by the insurance company because it viewed it as a maternity case, according to Nadeem.
