Dubai: Soon, all delivery riders might be utilizing electric bikes.

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) unveiled a prototype e-bike on Thursday, hoping to encourage delivery services to switch to more environmentally friendly electric bikes.

Director of Commercial Transport Activities at RTA’s Licensing Agency Muhannad Khaled Al Muhairi stated, “The objective of this initiative is to broaden and improve the scope of current and future commercial transport services, and accelerate the shift towards zero-emission transportation means.”

According to Al Muhairi, in order to encourage businesses to adopt environmentally friendly, green transportation options, RTA worked with industry professionals “to research and develop a prototype e-bike model befitting the job nature of delivery business.”

Charging stations for e-bikes are slated to be established throughout Dubai as part of the upcoming initiative. Al Muhairi emphasized that transitioning to e-bikes will result in a substantial decrease in operational expenses by lessening reliance on fossil fuels.
