Dubai: See the Ramadan Cannon Leader Who has not Broken Fast with his Family in 7 years.

While performing a time-honored tradition and announcing iftar every day during Ramadan in a variety of locales, Lt. Col. Abdullah Tarish Al Amimi, a 25-year Dubai Police officer, was unable to break his fast with his own family for seven years.

Major Al Amimi has become a recognizable face to the community, including youngsters, who congregate around him, waiting for the signal to fire the Ramadan cannon. They approach him shouting “Fire,” a phrase they have connected with him over the years as they have seen him shout it on the TV screen or in real life.

Since starting in 2017, I’ve never broken my iftar at home with my family. Instead, I join my coworkers and enjoy a supper with them. Our fathers told us that a person’s land is comparable to their house, and their labor is their family.

Major Al Amimi finds comfort in knowing he is a member of a more incredible family. He shares these lovely moments with hundreds of families who visit daily with their children to watch the cannon fire. The public’s excitement and enthusiasm, expressed in person and through media, give him great gratification and strengthen the strategic direction selected by the leaders.
