Dubai: RTA Announces Changes to Metro Routes Effective August 3

Starting on Saturday, August 3, there will be distinct Dubai Metro trips for the Expo 2020 and UAE Exchange Metro stations. The impending modification was disclosed by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) on Friday in a post on X.

This implies that passengers travelling on the Red Line to the Expo 2020 or UAE Exchange Metro Stations will need to confirm they are boarding the correct train in order to get there. The train route should be displayed on display screens at Metro stations, so travellers are advised to confirm the details before boarding.

In April, the RTA declared that the Dubai Metro Red Line would run a Y junction, which is the intersection of three railways, to do away with the requirement for passengers to change trains at the Jabal Ali metro station. As a result, passengers travelling from Centrepoint to UAE Exchange and the other way around won’t have to descend to Jabal Ali Interchange Station to change trains.

In June, the Dubai Executive Council declared that more stations would be added in the upcoming years. By 2030, the expansion is expected to increase the number of operational stations from 64 across 84 square kilometres to 96 across 140 square kilometres. By 2040, it wants to have covered 140 stations across 228 square kilometres.

According to RTA, Dubai Metro’s expansion aims to lower carbon emissions to 16 tonnes per person, increase the percentage of public transportation in the emirate to 45 percent, and enhance the practicality and efficiency of sustainable transportation.
