Arash Hazaq, an Iraqi expat living in Dubai, used to pay Dh800 a month for his son’s school transportation. The 15-year-old expat rode the school bus for more than 1.5 hours to cover the 7km distance.
Hazaq, who is now tired of the “exorbitant” fee and the lengthy drive, has chosen to use School Rides, a specialized taxi service operated by Careem and the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
I’m rather pleased with the service thus far. Considering that my son attends school in Al Quoz and we reside in Satwa, I think using the School Rides service makes more sense. The foreigner told News Times, “My son not only saves about 1.5 hours of travel time during each trip, but it is also cost-effective.”
Starting at Dh500, packages that include 40 rides are good for 90 days. The price increases with the distance. The Dh1,300 that Hazaq paid for his package, “which I can use for pickups or drops,”
But kids aren’t the only ones who can use the program. In August, British student Umar Osman relocated to Dubai from the UK to attend Middlesex University.
I admit that I was first a little concerned about commuting. However, I have to pay Dh2,000 for 40 journeys using this service. If not, I would have needed to pay Dh60 for each way. The Mira community in Al Qudra resident stated, “It offers flexibility in addition to cost savings.”
