Dubai: Going Somewhere For Eid? How to Prevent Unexpected Dewa Bills When Traveling

Are you prepared for your summer vacation and Eid AlIn May, Etihad Airways Transports 1.5 Million People Adha? Make sure your utilities app is in “Away Mode” before you leave the house so it can monitor your water and electricity usage and prevent you from returning from vacation to find out how much money you owe.

On Friday, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) reminded its clients to plan ahead and take precautions before leaving. In order to prevent energy waste in standby mode, it was advised that they turn off and unplug electrical appliances while they are away from home.

Using the Dewa website and mobile app to activate the “Away Mode” feature on their account is an additional precautionary step.

Customers using the “Away Mode” service can keep an eye on how much water and electricity they use while traveling because Dewa will email them daily or weekly data. If there is an unusual amount of water or electricity used while they are away, they will be notified.

This will assist in averting a recurrence of the incident that befell a British expat in August of last year, who was taken aback upon returning from vacation to discover a startling Dh20,179 Dewa bill.
