As the pandemic has changed the 9 to 5 workplace culture, UAE workers are considered the most challenging working globally and do the longest hours per week.

According to the Business Name Generator (BNG) study, the UAE is the world’s third hardest-working country. According to the survey, 46.5 percent of workers are logging 49 or more hours per week in the UAE. Moreover, the average paid work hours per week total is 52.6 in the UAE.

In the list of 150 countries, Malta is at the top astonishingly, 91 percent of workers spend 49 or more hours per week, which is the highest of all the countries that were studied.

Bhutan, the UAE, Bangladesh, Lesotho, Mauritius, Congo, Maldives, Lebanon, and Pakistan follow Malt.

In addition to this data, BNG also includes data from the International Labour Organisation on average working hours and the number of workers that regularly work overtime in each country.

SA Butt, a new resident of Dubai who works for a logistics company, puts in nine hours every day and some extra hours sometimes during the month.

He added that” the additional hours that I put in help me to pay off my credit card bills and dining. Sometimes, I also pay more money to my family to meet their expenses for significant occasions like Eid and weddings at relatives. The additional income I earn after working extra hours helps my family in my home country to meet their expenses”.

Moreover, Deepa Sud, CEO of Plum Jobs, also said work lives are extremely fast paced as employers and customers want a quick turnaround to their needs, which has started to take its toll on employees who must meet deadlines and targets. Hence, in most cases, organizations have restructured to be more cost-effective, resulting in employees working longer hours.

Sud added that hard and smart work complement each other and are the foundation of success.

Sud added, ” Hard work involves investing time and effort to attain tasks and goals, while smart work involves using time and resources effectively to maximize productivity and efficiency. You can achieve smart work by setting clear goals aligned with the mission, leveraging technology, prioritizing tasks, and quickly improving your work to produce better quality outcomes and results”.

As per Business Name Generator, countries like Israel, Netherlands, Austria, and France sit at the bottom of the ranking, with shorter work weeks and minimal overtime.

In the United Kingdom, London has the hardest workers with the most paid hours on average(36) and achieves the highest productivity levels.

As per our study, In the United States, Utah has appeared as the top-ranking state in the US for the hardest working residents.
