Cemex supplies Vertua Products to Masdar City’s “The Link”

Abu Dhabi, UAE. 24 July 2023: Cemex UAE announced today its partnership with Dutco Construction Company through supplying its low-carbon “Vertua” concrete to “The Link” project in Masdar City, Abu Dhabi.

The project involves the construction of 5 residential and commercial buildings spanning an area of 30,000 sqm in Masdar City, which is designed to be a sustainable urban living model with zero carbon emissions and zero waste. “The Link” – expected to be completed by Q2 2025 – will be the region’s first Net-Zero energy shared working and living space that connects sustainable offices, residences, a visitor center, a multi-use hall, and leisure amenities.

Cemex UAE will supply 55,000m³ of Vertua Plus concrete which saves more than 60% CO2. Vertua products are aligned with Masdar City’s requirement and provides better durability and long-term strength.

According to Rafael Villalona, Cemex UAE Country Director, “We are proud to be a part of this prestigious project and to provide more sustainable cement and concrete solutions that align with the UAE’s 2030 vision.” He added: “Our partnership with Dutco Construction Company reflects our commitment to the development and prosperity of the UAE through delivering high-quality products and services that meet our clients’ needs while promoting sustainability and environmental responsibility.”

The Link project will be constructed to LEED Platinum, WELL Gold, 4 Pearl PBRS Estidama, and LEED SmartPark Silver standards, with a planned annual energy reduction of up to 117%. The project is expected to use energy-efficient structures as well as sustainability features including high-efficiency heating, ventilation and cooling, energy monitoring, in addition to being powered by renewable energy.

Vertua is Cemex’s portfolio of products and solutions that are more sustainable by design and contribute to decarbonizing the built environment and building a better, more sustainable future.  Vertua represents one of the pillars of the company’s climate action program “Future in Action”, which aims to achieve sustainable excellence through climate action, circularity, and natural resource management with the primary objective of becoming a net-zero CO2 company.
