After a hazardous storm produced heavy rains and sparked a declaration of emergency, hundreds of thousands of people lost power, and large areas of the US state of California were submerged under water on Monday.
Declaring a state of emergency for eight counties in Southern California, Governor Gavin Newsom stated, “This is a serious storm with dangerous and potentially life-threatening impacts.”
Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, and Santa Barbara are among the impacted locations.
The electricity supply tracker PowerOutage.us reports that early on Monday morning, about 700,000 consumers were without power.
According to flightaware.com, dozens of flights into and out of the Los Angeles airport were canceled or delayed.
A previous warning from the National Weather Service stated that a “strong Pacific storm system would bring impactful and dangerous flooding rains, heavy snow, strong winds, coastal flooding, and high surf to California.”
“Heavy rainfall will bring the threat for life-threatening flash, urban, and river flooding as well as debris flows and mudslides,” according to the National Weather Service.
