At the NATO Summit, China Declares That it will Never Accept “Unfounded Accusations

China says it will never accept 'unfounded accusations' at NATO summit

July 12, Beijing  – In a phone conversation with his Dutch counterpart, Foreign Minister Wang Yi declared that China would never accept the “unfounded accusations” leveled against it during this week’s NATO summit in Washington, according to his ministry. Wang stated that China is prepared to keep in touch with NATO on “an equal footing” and to engage in mutually respectful exchanges, but that it is asking the military alliance to respect its interests and refrain from meddling in its domestic affairs.

Although China’s political systems and values differ from those of the NATO member states, he claimed that this should not be used as justification for NATO to “instigate confrontation with China.”

Wang stated during the Thursday phone call that “the right way is to strengthen dialogue, enhance understanding, build basic mutual trust, and avoid strategic miscalculation.”
China criticized the NATO summit statement on Thursday, calling it biassed and “sowing discord” and characterizing it as a “decisive enabler” of Russia’s war effort in Ukraine.

The spokeswoman for the foreign ministry claimed that NATO’s “hyping up” of China’s involvement in the Ukraine crisis “comes with malicious intent”.
Wang stated that China is prepared to forge close ties and engage in comprehensive communication with the newly elected Dutch government regarding relations with the Netherlands.

He continued by saying that China thought the Netherlands would support the EU in adopting an unbiased and reasonable perspective towards China and actively contribute to the steady and positive growth of China-EU ties.
