At the Greece Book Fair, Sharjah is the First Arab Guest of Honour.

An exceptional cultural initiative from Sharjah will be honored as the Guest of Honour at the 2024 Thessaloniki International Book Fair, which takes place from May 16–19. The emirate, the first city in the Arab world to receive this great honour, will highlight the rich history and culture of both the UAE and the larger region during this event. Through more than 25 events that bring together prominent Emirati writers and important cultural, scholarly, and literary entities, Sharjah will open doors for publishers, translation houses, and publishing houses to exchange ideas and work together.

The celebration of Sharjah honors its noteworthy role in fostering the creative industries in the Arab world and its impact on bridging the East and West with global publishing markets. A tribute to Sharjah as the Guest of Honour at this renowned cultural event also recognises its central role as one of the key World Book Capitals. The Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) Chairperson, Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, emphasized the significance of this celebration, stating: “This occasion catalyzes a constructive global dialogue, reminding us of the significance of shared cultural heritage.” We are incredibly proud of Sharjah’s ability to serve as a cultural link. Sharjah has long been hailed as a symbol of Arab and Emirati identity, and we’re still dedicated to promoting strong, cross-cultural exchanges that cut across boundaries.
