At Manchester Airport, a Police Officer Punches a Man in the Face Before Stamping his Head

Following the release of a video purportedly showing an officer kicking and stamping on a man’s head, hundreds of demonstrators gathered outside a Rochdale police station overnight. Protesters reportedly set off fireworks and chanted “shame on you” outside the station where four men were being held in handcuffs following their tumultuous Tuesday night arrests at Manchester Airport.

The startling video, which went viral on social media, seemed to show an officer brandishing a Taser striking a man in the face and then stamping on his head while the man was lying on the ground with his arms by his sides. Then, another man with his hands behind his head was targeted by the same officer brandishing a Taser. While being transported, it seemed as though he struck the back of his neck.

However, Nusrit Mehtab, a former superintendent at Scotland Yard, criticised the officer’s response as “horrendous” and urged Greater Manchester Police to suspend him. Mehtab said to Sky News on Thursday morning, “It was not reasonable, it was not justified, and it was not proportionate.” The combination of the kick, which was unbelievably violent because he raised his head, and the stamping on the head is inexplicable.
