American Hospital Dubai publicly launched its sustainability policy in order to further solidify its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint as part of its ongoing sustainable practices activities. Launching the policy coincides with the proclamation of 2023 as the Year of Sustainability by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the United Arab Emirates.
In order to enable The American Hospital to become the region’s foremost hospital model in carbon reduction, it has implemented a sustainable policy that integrates performance, measurability, and accountability. This policy is a covenant of governance and effect.
The goal is to create energy resilience through the use of clean alternative means, optimize the utilization and lifetime of the hospital’s resources, and empower its staff as active policy practitioners, the policy is an oath to the UAE, its people, and the environment.
Phase 1 of the initiative consists of Scopes 1 and 2, wherein Scope 1 addresses the direct carbon dioxide emissions from American Hospital Dubai, encompassing its buildings, ambulance fleet, and other facilities, while Scope 2 addresses the indirect energy use, including electricity bills and power needed to run the hospitals and clinics. Scope 3 will broaden the project’s goals to include any emissions from the company’s value chain that fall outside of Scopes 1 and 2, such as using and discarding goods acquired from suppliers.
