In response to the passing of Kuwait’s Emir, Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Sabah, the President, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, said on Saturday that the country would observe three days of mourning.
An announcement by state news agency Wam states that Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed ordered flags to be flown at half-mast at all government offices within the nation as well as the UAE’s embassies and diplomatic posts overseas starting today.
The President posted on social media platform X expressing the leadership’s deepest condolences to Kuwait and its royal family:
The Dubai Ruler wrote, “Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Sabah served his country for sixty years and carried out his position with all dedication.
Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Sabah, who was born in 1937, was the fifth son of Sheikh Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, the late ruler of Kuwait from 1921 until 1950. At the age of 25, he began his political career as the governor of the province of Hawalli, a position he held until 1978, when he began a ten-year tenure as interior minister.
After Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah, the late emir, passed away in 2020, Sheikh Nawaf took the oath of office. At eighty-three, Sheikh Meshal Al Ahmad Al Jaber is thought to be the oldest crown prince in the world. He will eventually become the next monarch of Kuwait.
