After its Building in Gaza is Bombed, Belgium Calls the Israeli Ambassador

Following the bombing of a Belgian development agency headquarters in Gaza City on Friday, Belgium called the Israeli ambassador and stated it will bring up the subject of reparations.

“International humanitarian law is violated when attacks are launched against civilian infrastructure. Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib wrote on the social media site X, “All parties must abide by it.

The building, which was shared with Handicap International, should have been empty at the time of the bombing, according to the Belgian Ministry for Development Cooperation, which stated that it was not aware of any civilian casualties. The Israeli envoy had pledged a probe, according to a ministry.

In a statement, the foreign ministry stated, “Belgium will put the issue of compensation for the damaged infrastructure of projects financed by the EU and its Member States back on the agenda of the next European consultation.”

When the structure was bombed, it was unclear. According to the speaker, Belgium assumed it had occurred on Wednesday and learned about it on Thursday night.

The foreign ministry underlined the appeal for a long-term humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, a restart of the peace process, and political talks that may result in a two-state solution—”the only way out of this conflict.”
