After a Year, Threads has 175 Million Users.

One year after its unexpected launch, Threads, Meta’s take on X (formerly Twitter), has amassed 175 million monthly users.

Launched on July 5 of last year, Threads is an Instagram spin-off designed to compete with X, formerly known as Twitter, which alienated a lot of users and advertisers after Elon Musk bought it in 2022.

Following Musk’s threat to restrict the number of posts on X that non-subscribers could see, Threads was quickly shut down.

The volatile founder of Tesla made a series of wild announcements before this one, and Mark Zuckerberg attempted to capitalise on the occasion.

Within a week of its launch in 100 countries, Threads was downloaded by over 100 million people thanks to their Instagram accounts; however, the EU had to wait until December due to regulatory concerns.

With the support of Instagram, Threads broke the record for fastest app downloads ever set by ChatGPT, the AI sensation.Chief executive officer of Threads Adam Mosseri stated that he planned for the platform to gradually become less dependent on Instagram and that he would potentially make it available to advertisers.

Expanding beyond Musk’s X “will take some time, but if we don’t get there, I will consider it a failure,” Mosseri stated to the news outlet Platformer.
