Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Visits Kashmir for the First time After Special Status was Abolished.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits Kashmir for the first time after special status was abolished.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his first official visit to Kashmir’s principal city on Thursday after New Delhi stripped the region of semi-autonomy and imposed direct authority in 2019.
Modi addressed a crowd in a soccer stadium in Srinagar, announcing development projects and claiming that previous governments had misled people about the region’s now-defunct special status.

“The success story of Jammu and Kashmir will be the center of attraction for the world,” he added, adding that the region has thrived since the 2019 move. “I’ve always stated that my hard work is to earn your hearts. “I will continue to work to win your hearts,” Modi told the audience.

Modi and his party have accused Kashmir’s pro-India parties of corruption, deceiving Kashmiris, and encouraging separatist in the region. Kashmiri politicians, who claim that their special status was a constitutional promise, have dubbed Modi divisive and anti-minority.
