India: Amidst Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s expected visit to the famed Sri Krishna temple in Guruvayur, Kerala, on January 17, restrictions have been placed on marriages and other rituals.
Modi is scheduled to attend actor-turned-politician Suresh Gopi’s wedding at the shrine. Bhagya, the daughter of the former BJP MP, will wed at the temple between 8.45 and 9.15 in the morning. In the 2019 elections, Suresh Gopi ran as a BJP candidate in the Thrissur parliament constituency.
Given the prime minister’s arrival, the temple will enforce wedding limits from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. According to minister’s reports, the temple is slated to conduct 66 weddings on the same day; at least 11 will be held between 6 am and 9 am. Nevertheless, nine weddings have been rescheduled by the temple officials to take place before 6 am because of the regulations prohibiting weddings at that time. They will all be held after nine in the morning. According to sources, the interested parties have received instructions from the police.
