Philippines prosecutor dismisses death threat case against former President Duterte

According to court documents made public on Friday, a prosecutor in the Philippines has dismissed a criminal complaint against former president Rodrigo Duterte, who was charged with threatening to kill a female legislator.

House of Representatives Deputy Minority Leader France Castro claimed that Duterte had twice threatened her life in the previous year and had requested that a state prosecutor in Manila charge him.

In a sanctioned determination made public to the media on Friday, prosecutor Leila Llanes rejected the complaint on Tuesday “due to insufficient evidence.”

In two appearances with the local channel SMNI, Castro claimed that Duterte had violated the Cybercrime Prevention Act by making “grave threats.”

When the prosecutor asked not to indict Duterte last month, he denied making death threats against Castro.

During an interview, the former president recalled giving his daughter, Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte, “advice” on using classified information and cash allotted to her office.

“Your first objective with your intelligence fund is ‘You, you France.’ In an interview, Duterte stated, “Tell her, ‘I want to kill you because you are communists.”
