In the occupied West Bank, US Blinken meets Palestinian leader Abbas.

Following his insistence that Israel’s leaders provide a roadmap for the establishment of a Palestinian state, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with President Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority (PA) on Wednesday in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

According to pool reporters accompanying the US top diplomat, Blinken went through Israeli roadblocks to arrive at Ramallah, the de facto capital of the Palestinian people.

The visit took place the day after discussions regarding Israel’s battle against Hamas, regional unrest, and the future of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict were held on Tuesday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his war cabinet.

In a press conference on Tuesday night, Blinken stated that he would talk with Abbas about the PA’s obligation to change and strengthen its leadership. This was in line with Washington’s belief that Abbas, 88, must restructure the group to lead Gaza after the conflict.

The PA is still the best chance for a single Palestinian government to oversee both Gaza and the West Bank. It currently holds limited self-governance in certain parts of the occupied West Bank.
