UAE declares the completion of Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant Unit 4.

The UAE Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) has declared today that, in compliance with all national laws and the strictest international standards, its operating and maintenance subsidiary, Nawah Energy Company, has finished the process of loading fuel assemblies into Unit 4 of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant.

Nawah has received the Operating License for Unit 4 from the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR), the independent nuclear regulatory body of the United Arab Emirates. With this accomplishment, the UAE is one step closer to having its whole fleet operating at Barakah, the region’s greatest single source of clean electricity.

Unit 4, Barakah’s last unit, when it comes online, will allow the Plant to provide 25% of the UAE’s electricity demand continuously for the next 60 years.

Delivered in three consecutive years, the three commercially active Units at Barakah are currently producing over 30TWh of annual zero-emission electricity. When commercial operations start, Unit 4 will increase the Barakah Plant’s overall capacity to generate clean electricity to 5.6GW, producing more than 40TWh of clean electricity annually.

Every year, millions of tons of carbon emissions—the primary contributor to climate change—are already avoided thanks to barakah.
