Rains in the UAE: Typical errors made by drivers that render their insurance claims void

Khaleej times

Some common mistakes made by drivers in the rains in the UAE during strong rains and floods that could invalidate their claims are damaged wipers, parking and driving in flooded waters, and overestimating the capabilities of the vehicle and the driver.

According to an executive in the insurance sector, the most frequent and significant error people make when purchasing an insurance policy is to not even bother to read it, and then they complain later about certain damages not being covered.

Following last week’s intense rains, numerous regions of the nation experienced flooding, which damaged cars that were traveling through the flooded areas.

When a car is left on shallow ground or driven into a flooded and wet location, floods can seriously harm the interior cabin, engine, and electronics, according to Julien Audrerie, EVP, head of consumer lines and marketing at Sukoon Insurance.

This leads to costly auto repairs or, in the majority of situations, a total loss claim when the vehicle’s condition renders it unfit for use on the road or when the cost of repairs is prohibitive given the vehicle’s value. Hail or flying debris may potentially cause damage to the car’s exterior and its glass window surfaces, depending on how strong the storm is, the man stated.
