Abu Dhabi: In an inspiring fusion of healthcare and motorsports, children at Burjeel Medical City received an exclusive virtual tour of the Yas Marina Circuit during the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, thanks to an innovative partnership utilizing telepresence technology. The telepresence robots, supplied by the French tech firm Awabot, enabled the young patients to interact in real-time with their racing heroes and explore the paddock from their hospital beds.
One of the patients, 10-year-old Mansour Mohammed Alblooshi, shared his exhilaration at the virtual encounter with F1 celebrities, describing it as an immersive experience that brought the trackside thrills directly to him.
The initiative, spearheaded by the nursing team, was lauded for its positive impact on the children’s recovery process. Aysha Al Mehri from Burjeel Medical City emphasized the significant role such experiences play in fostering a healing atmosphere. Echoing her sentiments, Awabot’s CEO Jeremie Koessler celebrated the technology’s power to bridge distances and spark joy in the most remarkable ways.
