Israel strikes five Hezbollah fighters, including the son of a prominent member.

BEIRUT: According to Hezbollah and three people with knowledge of the matter, an Israel strike on the town of Beit Yahoun in south Lebanon on Wednesday night killed five Hezbollah militants, including the son of a senior Hezbollah member.

The group declared late on Wednesday night that five of its members had passed away, raising the total number of Hezbollah fighters slain since border-related fighting to 85.

Among those listed was Abbas Raad, who according to sources is the son of parliamentarian and prominent Hezbollah figure Mohammad Raad, who the US sanctioned in 2019.

According to Reuters, the five were killed in an Israeli strike on the village of Beit Yahoun, according to two Hezbollah sources and one security source.

Following Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7, Israel and Hezbollah, an ally of the militant group Hamas, have been exchanging more intense rocket fire along the Lebanese border.

The Israeli military stated in a statement that two cells that fired at Israeli forces or attempted to send rockets into Israel were killed by fighter jets that they had deployed against Hezbollah facilities in Lebanon.
