In Riyadh, the Bangladeshi embassy honors Armed Forces Day.

RIYADH: The Bangladeshi embassy in Riyadh observed Armed Forces Day on Tuesday in honor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the country’s founder, and in remembrance of those who lost their lives fighting for freedom in 1971.

The diplomatic quarter’s embassy served as the venue for the reception.

Every year on November 21, Bangladesh observes Armed Forces Day to commemorate the formation of its air force, navy, and army during the 1971 war.

The main guest at the reception was Saudi Ministry of Defense Major General Fahad Bin Abdullah Al-Subaie. Other guests included defense attachés, ambassadors, diplomats from various missions, and Saudi officials. Bangladeshi expatriates were also present.

Charge d’affaires for Bangladesh The guests were greeted by Brig. Gen. Muhammad Golam Faruque, the Defense Attaché, and Mohammed Abul Hasan Mridha.

According to Faruque, the army, navy, and air force of Bangladesh united on November 21, 1971, and on December 16, 1971, they succeeded in crushing the occupying army.

While November 21 is commemorated as the day the Bangladeshi armed forces were established, the army, navy, and air force started fighting the occupying forces on March 26, 1971.

Faruque said he respected the martyrs of the 1971 liberation struggle and the nation’s founder, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and he thought back to the sacrifices made by military personnel. He claimed that shortly after the country gained its independence, Rahman established a defense strategy and started turning the armed forces into a professional force.
