Dubai will soon host an iconic artwork by the legendary Pablo Picasso. The painting, titled “Femme a la Montre” or “Woman with a Watch”, valued at an estimated $120 million, is set to be displayed in the city by New York’s premier auction house, Sotheby’s.
Previously owned by the late Emily Fisher Landau, a New York-based art collector and philanthropist who passed away at the age of 102 in March 2023, the painting has significant history. Ms. Landau acquired the piece at the beginning of her art collection journey and it remained a centerpiece in her New York residence for over half a century.
The artwork features Marie-Therese Walter, who was known to be Picasso’s muse and appeared in many of his famous portraits. Notably, the year of the painting’s creation, 1932, holds such distinction in Picasso’s oeuvre that it led the Tate Modern Museum to dedicate an entire exhibition to it in 2018.
For those interested in viewing the masterpiece, it will be on display at Sotheby’s Dubai on September 25 and 26, located at Level B2, Building 3, DIFC Gate Village. The exhibit is open from 2pm to 5pm on Monday and from 10am to 7pm on Tuesday.
This exhibition is a segment of “The Emily Fisher Landau Collection: An Era” world tour, which commenced in New York on September 13 and is set to conclude in Los Angeles on October 22. Following the tour, the artwork will be auctioned in November.
