Millions of UAE Students Head Back to School Today

Separately, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, whose minister is also serving in an acting capacity over higher education matters, announced that university enrolment across the country has reached its highest level in five years, with more than 218,000 students now registered at UAE universities. That figure includes tens of thousands of new enrolments over the past academic year alone, reflecting sustained demand for higher education among both Emirati nationals and the UAE’s large expatriate community.
At the school level, the return of more than 1.2 million students underscores just how central education has become to the country’s broader demographic and economic story. With Dubai’s population having more than doubled over recent years and the wider country continuing to attract young families from across the world, the UAE’s school system has had to expand its capacity substantially to keep pace.
