2024 NATO Summit: China Denounces 'Decisive Enabler' Accusation, Says US-led Bloc Is Spreading Lies

China has denounced the US-led Western alliance for disseminating “lies, smears, and provocations” as the NATO Summit 2024 takes place in Washington, DC. Beijing’s remarks follow NATO allies’ description of Beijing as a “decisive enabler” of Russia in the conflict currently raging in Ukraine.

China has issued this warning in addition to NATO leaders promising to back Ukraine and strengthen its defenses against Russia. NATO needs to “stop hyping up the so-called China threat and provoking confrontation and rivalry, and do more to contribute to world peace and stability,” according to a spokesman for China’s EU mission.

The 32 member states of NATO voiced “profound concern” in a communique released on Day 2 of the summit regarding China’s close ties to Russia, alleging Beijing has become a decisive enabler of Russia’s war against Ukraine through its no-limits partnership.”

According to NATO allies, Beijing “cannot enable the largest war in Europe in recent history without this negatively impacting its interests and reputation.” They also urged Beijing to “cease all material and political support to Russia’s war effort.
