Sharjah Establishes the Foundation for its Biggest Solar Power Facility

The UAE’s Sharjah National Oil Corporation (SNOC), the emirate of Sharjah’s executive branch for the oil and gas sector, declared on Monday that construction on the largest solar power plant in the emirate had begun.

According to a press release from SNOC, Emerge, a joint venture between Masdar and the EDF Group, will develop and operate the 60MWp ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) plant at the Sajaa Gas Complex for 25 years under a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) agreement.

The plant is anticipated to offset 66,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, which is the equivalent of removing over 14,600 cars from the road annually.

SNOC is happy to witness this significant milestone on its path to achieve Net-Zero by 2032 across its own operations,” stated Hatem Al Mosa, Chief Executive Officer of SNOC. “We also support the Emirate of Sharjah’s sustainability agenda and commitment to protecting the environment.”

Our turnkey solutions offer businesses like SNOC the ability to transition towards a sustainable future without upfront costs,” stated Michel Abi Saab, General Manager of Emerge. By completing this project, SNOC will be better equipped to meet its decarbonization objectives and ensure a more affordable energy future for the Emirate. We hope it is completed successfully.
