UAE Gives $8 Million to WHO in Order to Aid with Relief Efforts in Sudan

The United Arab Emirates has given the World Health Organisation (WHO) $8 million as part of a major partnership to address the humanitarian crisis in Sudan. Signed at the WHO headquarters in Geneva, this agreement will provide funding for important health projects in Sudan that will help improve the terrible living conditions of the country’s people.

This contribution supports WHO’s efforts to deliver vital healthcare services in areas affected by conflict and is a part of the UAE’s larger commitment to international humanitarian relief. The funds will specifically go towards programmes that prevent disease, emergency response capabilities, and healthcare infrastructure.

The formal agreement was signed by Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of WHO, and Sultan Al Shamsi, Assistant Minister for International Development Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates (MoFA), in the presence of Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs Lana Zaki Nusseibeh at the WHO headquarters in Geneva.

“The work done by the World Health Organisation in Sudan is saving lives every day, and we believe it is essential to support this ongoing mission” , said Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, spokesperson for “People in crisis situations throughout the region have benefited from the long-standing partnership between the UAE and the WHO. We’re determined to support the people of Sudan.”
