According to industry executives, cars damaged in the UAE’s unprecedented April 16 rains have begun to appear for sale on the open and unregulated market, such as classified websites.
It is estimated that over a thousand vehicles were damaged during the rains, which were the heaviest in 75 years. Insurers are overwhelmed with claims, and garages have long waiting lists.
It has been nearly a month and a half, and we are seeing that repaired cars are returning to the market,” he said, adding that the company’s data on buyers versus sellers showed a clear trend of more buyers in the market.
“We used to have two price brackets for cars that people would look into: Dh50,000 to Dh80,000 and Dh150,000 or more. However, the third bracket is now opening as more people consider purchasing cars priced between Dh30,000 and Dh50,000. These are the people whose claims were denied because they were driving through flooded roads, and they are looking for replacement vehicles. Since they’re looking at slightly older models, they want to make sure they’re buying.
