According to Saudi Arabia, the first day of Eid Al Fitr is Wednesday, April 10, because of Monday night’s lack of sightings of the crescent Moon. As a result, the Kingdom declared that this year’s holy month of Ramadan will last 30 days.
Prior to now, the Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia had urged Muslims nationwide to look for the crescent moon on Ramadan 29—that is, on Monday, April 8, 2024, in the Gregorian calendar.
The Kingdom’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development has stated that public and private sector workers in Saudi Arabia would enjoy a four-day break for Eid Al Fitr beginning on Monday, April 8 (Ramadan 29, 1445). Saudi citizens will have a six-day weekend because Friday and Saturday are the Kingdom’s official weekend days. Workers will report back to work on Sunday, April 14.
Private sector workers will have an Eid holiday starting on Monday, April 8, and lasting until 3 Shawwal, or the equivalent date in the Gregorian calendar. For most workers, who typically take their weekends on Saturday and Sunday, a six-day holiday would result from Eid being announced on April 9 in the United Arab Emirates.
